Can You Get Rid of Acne Overnight?
We've all been there. Just before the "big event" a monster
zit pops up out of nowhere. Is it possible to get rid of acne
overnight?
It sounds reasonable. Pimples seem to show
up overnight. But the fact is that pimples usually take
days or even weeks to form. You may not realize it, but a
lot is happening below the surface of your skin where
pimples originate.
Even though acne does not really develop overnight, it is
possible to get rid of pimples fairly quickly. If you have
severe or widespread acne, these methods may not work. But if
you're just trying to zap the occasional zit, there are some
things you can do to get rid of acne overnight, or at least get
a good start on it.
Here is a simple 4-step plan for zapping your zits while you
sleep:
1. Clean and exfoliate your skin.
- Wash your face with a mild cleanser before bedtime. Pat
your skin dry with a soft, clean towel.
- Exfoliate with a gentle scrub or make your own at home
using oatmeal or baking soda. Don't be overly aggressive or
you'll irritate your skin further.

2. Get rid of bacteria
- Apply benzoyl peroxide to the affected area. Be sure to
follow the directions carefully.
- Put some Neosporin on your blemish and gently run it
in.
- If you want to go the natural route, you can try
diluted apple cider vinegar. Combine 1 tablespoon of
vinegar with 3 tablespoons of water. Let it sit on your
face for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
- Dab some honey on your pimple.
3. Reduce redness and inflammation
- Apply an ice pack on the affected area for about 10
minutes at a time. Do this several times before bedtime.
Don't put ice directly on your skin. Wrap it in something
like a tissue or a soft washcloth.
- Put a few eye drops on your pimple. Products like
Visine are designed to reduce redness.
- Cut a clove of garlic and rub it on your blemishes. It
reduces inflammation and combats bacteria.
- Put a slice of potato on your zit to reduce swelling
and redness.
4. Dry out the pimple.
- Dab some toothpaste (the plain white non-gel kind)
directly on your zit (not on your entire face). Some scoff,
but others swear it works.
- Make a paste with baking soda and water.
- Crush an aspirin and apply a paste to your zit.
What if
nothing works?
If your efforts failed to get rid of acne overnight, use a
concealer to camouflage your zit. Make sure the color matches
your skin tone. If the zit is big, use something a bit
darker.
If you're a guy, don't let your bravado stand in the way.
Ask your girlfriend, sister, or even your mother for help. If
you just can't bring yourself to use makeup and you need to get
rid of acne overnight, there are some products specifically
targeted to men.
